As a pest controller I very often get the phone call saying “we have noises in our loft/attic/floor space.. I think we have rats or mice?”
The only way to diagnose the cause of noises is to either physically see the culprit, or more often than not, we have to rely on secondary evidence i.e. rat or mouse droppings, signs of gnawing and chewing, signs of nesting or food storage etc etc.
At a particular recent job just outside of Cambridge, near Ely, the above sceanrio played out and Fenland Environmental Services were called out as we operate our pest control throughout Cambridge, Ely, Newmarket, Huntingdon, etc
The intial inspection for pests highlighetd some old mouse activity and a largeish gap under a fascia-line roof tile. Therefore a motion sensitive infra-red camera was set in place to identify the pest…..see below.
So there we have it, not our rodent friends but a starling. Which by the way is a protected bird species in the UK.
So, if you are experiencing noises etc in your loft then dont hesitate to get assistance- it may not be as bad as you are expecting.??
